In the Beginning
When we hear these three words, we know where they came from first. They are the first 3 words from the Bible.
The Big Bang Theory first appeared in a scientific paper written by George Lemaitre, a Belgian cosmetologist and Catholic priest. There wasn’t much science behind it like many theories, but it caught on. It is shocking to me that anyone would believe that everything was created by one explosion that blew things up and then formed them into the world we have, basically from chaos to beauty. When I first heard some of the “theories” about how the world we live in “came to be”, they were presented as fact. So, I believed. Then someone told me that I should read Genesis for the real story, but because I was told the “Big Bang” was the real story, I tried to combine the 2. I thought perhaps that God used the big bang to accomplish this. However, I soon learned that this theory really didn’t make sense if you believe the Bible, and I did. There could be no combination of the two.
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
6 And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
There is more of course to this beautiful story so read all of it. If you believe even slightly that the Bible is real, this makes so much more sense than the Big Bang theory. I envision our Lord actually creating this planet. Working to form each section and at the end he might say, “perfect, I created this, and it is good”. When He was finished with the earth, sky, the waters, the land, all that is within them & day & night, He went on to create Adam. He saw that Adam was lonely, so he put him into a sleep and made from him, a helper. Eve. God looked at them and said this is good. We know the rest, they lived in the Garden of Eden, paradise, until they sinned. They did exactly what God had told them not to do! I have wondered if we, as His creation have been very disappointing to Him. Especially in these last days.
Lord, help us to know where we came from, that we are the sons and daughters of the Most High God! We know that we cannot completely escape sin in the “human” bodies, but we also know that we have a savior who died so that we won’t be judged with the unsaved who rejected Jesus. Thank you, Lord, for the sacrifices you made for us, help us to always remember. Amen
