The Baby Was Born
The Baby Was Born
The baby was born; the shepherds have gone back to their sheep. The Wisemen are on their way. The quiet peace of the baby’s birth was drowned out by the mass chaos of small children opening presents, eating chocolate Santas and playing with cousins. Wrapping paper is everywhere, but in a couple of hours, everyone is gone. It’s over. The celebration is done. All the weeks of preparations. The house is quiet again. The little ones no doubt are asleep in the car by the time they hit the city limits. Sound familiar?
It seems anticlimactic. Sunday, Pastor mentioned “after Christmas let down”. It would be easy to see why a person would have a post-holiday let down. It seems like all of the festivities are done and nothing else is left. But WAIT! The savior was born! Just because the angel choir left, doesn’t mean we should stop singing. At least in our hearts! It’s ok to throw away the wrapping paper, clean up the sticky stuff the kids left. But don’t forget about the baby. The sweet, tiny infant in Mary’s arms. The baby that came to save us all from Satan’s power. This is no time to forget what His mission was. What He came here to do. His mission was to grow like any child. To learn, to teach, to love. He knew why He came to earth. They called Him Immanuel, “God with us”.
What a gift that tiny baby is to our world. So today let’s remember what we celebrated just a few days ago. Let’s remember the child and why He came. Let’s be grateful for a gift we could not accomplish on our own. If Jesus never answered a prayer, never comforted, protected or provided for us, the gift of salvation would still always be the greatest gift possible. Let’s be grateful for another new year with new hopes and dreams. God has richly blessed us. In His Name, Amen
