Unrelenting
UNRELENTING
How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss –
The Father turns His face away,
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory.
Behold the man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders;
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished;
His dying breath has brought me life –
I know that it is finished.
Endless, abounding, limitless, vast, immeasurable, fathomless, immense, extensive, bottomless, countless, inexhaustible, incalculable, incomputable, enduring, unbroken, unceasing, imperishable, unrelenting, unfaltering, abiding, indestructible. How Great the Fathers Love for me! It is all of these things…. And more. We, as humans, are not any of these things. We definitely are not inexhaustible, unbroken, imperishable. WE are finite. We have an expiration date, and our love often has boundaries. As these small, insignificant creatures that we are, we are so imperfect. We cannot even understand a God so great. One, who would leave his comfort in heaven to come to earth just to demonstrate this kind of love. We would have no way of knowing about such a love without Him, because we are not capable of it. We love. We love with our whole hearts. Our spouse, our families. But we do not have the heart of God. His love isn’t even encompassed in these words. It is so much bigger than this. His love is so big, that He stretched out His arms on the cross and died, so that we would be able to spend eternity with Him, instead of a place so vile and so horrifying that we do not want to comprehend it. The older I get, the more I realize how many “God” things I do not understand. I know that I long to be in His presence. So, if I love spending time, reading, praying, worshiping or just talking to God about nothing, I can only imagine what heaven will be like!!
Father, when we are weak and feeling alone, remind us to run to you. Remind us of your great love for us and help us to look to heaven as our home one day. Amen
