Elijah’s experience is a great example of Gods caring. You know his story. Elijah was in trouble for doing what God asked him to. People sought to kill him. So, God sent him out away from the city near a stream and told the ravens to bring him fresh bread every day. But eventually the stream dried up (God KNEW the stream would dry up) and Elijah needed water, so God told him to go into town and find a widow, ask her to make you something to eat. She explained that she had enough oil and flour to make a supper for her and her son and then they would die because there was no more. Elijah told her to make him a cake first, then the mother and son. She did and to her amazement, there was still flour and oil left over. This went on until God sent the rain so the crops would grow. He cared for their needs in a unique way.
Now, I have wondered, why did God just keep filling the flour and oil containers after each use? Why didn’t he just give them a huge barrel full at once and say, “there will be more when you need it.” But IF God had done that, their faith might have been in the barrel that held the food instead of the God that replenished it every day. “…give us this day our daily bread…”.
I think God gives us just enough for our day for a reason. If he gives us too much or more than we need for that day, we will tend to hoard and not rely on God. He also uses this for our worry’s. Matt 6:34. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
So, today, just seek what you need for today. Let God worry about tomorrow. He has it all figured out anyway.
