Seek Him
(Sorry! I sent the devotional out in the email, but forgot to post it here last week! Stacy)
Seek Him
Have you ever thought about what you would save if you could take one thing from your home during a fire? Many people say they would want their pictures. All the memories of when the children were young. Grandparents who were not with us any longer. But recently I heard someone say that pictures end up in the trash after 2 generations, because no one knows those people. I know this is true because Roger has inherited many pictures over the years. It is probably more like 3 or 4 generations for him. He cares about these things. But the fact is, our kids won’t care, they won’t know the people, so why keep the pictures?
One day we all die. Our loved ones will mourn us, but the pain subsides, and the next generation won’t know us. When you die, everything that you held dear (with the exception of people) will be thrown out, donated, or otherwise dispersed. We are dust. So, if we are dust, what happens to us? If we have chosen to give ourselves to Jesus, we will live with him in heaven forever.
In John 14:6 Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”
John 3:18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.".
So, I need to ask, when life is over, where will you spend eternity? God gave us a will to live so no one is in a hurry to die, but what a glorious day that will be. No more pain, no more suffering, no more tears! Just dancing, praising, and being in the light of our Lord. Our time here is short, but then we will be with Jesus and all our loved ones who believed in Him too, will be with us. It will be the most wonderful “family reunion” possible. So, hold tightly to what is good, like your faith. Let go of things that will not matter. Seek Him while you can. Encourage others to seek Him while they can. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone… and that’s ok. Because we have a divine appointment with the creator of the universe. He is waiting just for you and me.
Lord, help us to remember what is important. Our relationship with you should be our main goal every day. Thank you for the hope of heaven. Help us to seek you earnestly every day, until your return. Amen
