The Underground Church

The Underground Church

Recently I saw a trailer for a movie called Disciples in the Moonlight. The movie premise is that the government has taken away our bibles and replaced them with the NEW ENLIGHTENED BIBLE. They made it more “welcoming” without all of that bad, sad, stifling stuff that holds you back. The Christians soon realize that they have edited out all of God’s commands and sugar coated His word. This group of Christians find that one woman had been collecting old Bibles and she had many. So, they decided to reach out to the underground church and plan to deliver a bible to each group. The dept of Homeland Security is watching and will kill them if they are caught. I would like to see this movie, but I am fearful that we could be living it out before we know it. Our freedoms and rights are being quietly shut down. We cannot call someone illegal even if they commit a crime because that makes us hateful, racist.

Think for a minute about who Saul was before God turned him to Paul. Saul was a religious zealot. Over the centuries, there have been many wars because of faith. People who do not understand Christianity think this is appalling. War is awful but there are times that Christians have had to pick up the sword to defend the word of God. Our nation started that way. Our ancestors escaped other countries that dictated the religion that they were practicing. Thankfully for us, they organized and chose to follow Christ. The Ten Commandments are displayed on the US Supreme Court. As well as the Texas State Capital grounds, the Arkansas State Capital, Federal Buildings in Washington DC, the Library of Congress and more. Our money says, “In God We Trust”. YES, YES, WE DO! In my mind, this is exactly why we have been blessed as a nation and lived so comfortably all these years. But how long will God bless us if we do not put Him first? How long will he allow the killing of babies?

In Saul’s zealot days, he persecuted many Christians in the name of a God he didn’t know. Then one day, while walking along the road, God came to him in a very powerful way. He met the true God, and he was changed forever. Paul became a zealot for Jesus, though he never met him on earth. He was truly persecuted for Christ.

Though we pray we never have to be persecuted, or belong to an underground church, we should also pray that we will remain steadfast in our faith, because we do not know what tomorrow brings.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,

who put darkness for light and light for darkness,

who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

As the world around us calls things that are bad, good, and things that are good, bad, we need to stay in God’s word so that we will not be swayed to believe the lies of the enemy. He dresses up the lies to seem reasonable. Don’t buy it. He prowls the earth looking to kill, steal and destroy.

Lord, help us to stay close to you and always feel your leading. Amen
