This morning in worship, Mr. Niles mentioned that since rehearsing the song “Oceans”, he kept thinking about the line “give me faith without borders”. YES! I want that too! I want to have inexhaustible, unbridled, unfettered, unapologetic, boundless faith.
I remember having a conversation years ago with a good friend about how sometimes the disciples didn’t have faith as they should have. I mean, they lived with Him, they worked with Him, they saw the miracles firsthand!! But in their defense, we have so much of what He did right there in the New Testament and we still doubt. BUT aside from that, we ALSO have benefit of reading all the prophesy in the Bible and if you read the Old Testament and you can see how it’s been fulfilled, then you add to it the works of Jesus, HOW do we sometimes have little faith?
Some days I am “getting out of the boat” Peter. I have faith to spare. But somedays, I am weakened by the waves that keep hitting my boat, knocking me over and I am “sinking” Peter.
I find that sometimes I am challenged in my faith, especially if I have talked to someone or written about a specific thing. I catch myself thinking, well, are you a hypocrite or do you really believe all this faith stuff? Are you going to let a little storm or even a few hard waves knock you off your balance?
God calls us out of the boat to walk on the water to Him. It is dangerous territory. God also calls us to KEEP our eyes on Him! God won’t aways calm those waves and wind. But He will always walk through the storm with us.
