Time is Not our Friend

Apr 19, 2024

I have a question for you today. Why are you reading this devotion? I believe there are a few different answers. The first might be, that you LOVE the Lord and want to be encouraged in your faith. I hope you find that in the words that God gives me. Second, might be that you are searching, maybe you are not quite sure how to give your life to God or how to truly surrender your life to Him. To be in a position to KNOW that the savior loves you, died for you so that you may also be in heaven one day.  If you are unsure of your salvation, please, right now, call someone. A friend, a pastor, even me.

Psalms 39:4   Lord, let me know my end, and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.

There are a couple of places in the Bible where God talks about numbering our days. They are as vapor and go by so fast. Time is an earthly concept. God is not on our time clock. He knows the day and time that each of us will come into this world and leave this world. God has given us free will to make our own choices. We are each born with a sinful nature and on our way to … well, hell. There is no sugar coating it. Hell is real. The devil and his demons are real! The bible describes hell as separation from God, a lake of fire with burning and agony forever.

None of us spend our lives saying, “oh boy, can’t wait to die to go there!”. Of course not. We often put off many things in the name of “waiting for a better time”. You could put this devotion down and die right now. (I certainly hope you do not!) but tomorrow is not promised to anyone!!

I am fearful that many people say to themselves, “yes, I do believe that there is a “God”. That He created all things so one of these days I will go to Him. First though, I better quit smoking, stop cursing, and be a better person.” There is NO place in the Bible that says you need to clean up your act before coming to Jesus. In fact, there is nothing you could do to be good enough to come to Jesus on your own terms. But Jesus died just so that you don’t have to. So that you can come with your addictions, flaws, and sins.

Don’t wait another day, or even a minute if you have not made that decision. If you feel the tug of Jesus calling you, stop and pray. Tell Him that you want to be His child. That you want to be in heaven with Him when the time comes. Ask Him to be the Lord of your life, He will help you with every sin you need forgiveness for, for every sin or addition that you need healing from. He is waiting for you; He is knocking at the door of your heart. Time is a fleeting thing; it is not on our side. We are creatures made from dust for this world and when our time is over our souls will go one of 2 places. Would anyone really choose to go anyplace but heaven?

Lord, our time here is growing short. In fact, we are in the last days, whether that is tomorrow, next month, next year or 100 years. I pray for all my friends and family that have not come to you. Help us to tell others of your love any time that we can, and thank you Jesus, for dying for our sins. Amen.
