There was a song released back in 1983 by an artist named Anne Murray that, once heard, never left my mind. It’s called, “A Little Good News,” below is just the first verse and chorus, while some of it’s obviously dated, overall, as the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 1:9b So there is nothing new under the sun.

I rolled out this morning, kids had the mornin' news show on, Bryant Gumbel was talkin' 'bout the fighting in Lebanon.

Some senator was squawkin' 'bout the bad economy, It's gonna get worse you see, we need a change in policy.

There's a local paper rolled up in a rubber band, One more sad story's one more than I can stand.
Just once how I'd like to see the headline say, "Not much to print today, can't find nothin' bad to say", because:

Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'ed, nobody burned a single buildin' down
Nobody fired a shot in anger, nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today

How dismal would this world be if we didn’t have a reliable source for good news? As I read my Bible, sometimes it’s a sense of God’s grace & mercy in spite my sin. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Other times I’m reminded that as dangerous and depressing as this world can be, I am not on my own, I have someone watching over me. John 10:9-11 I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

And then there’s this, a reason for hope. Psalm 62:5 My soul, wait in silence for God only, for my hope is from Him.

John 14:1-3 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

That’s not even a nick, let alone a scratch, on the surface of the Good News contained in this treasure we have in the Bible. I urge you, as I look in the mirror, to become a Good News anchor and Good News reporter to those around us in our world who are desperately in need of some good news.
