Why do we fear?

Fear is often associated with the unknown or stepping out of your comfort zone. A world without fear might open us up to even greater experiences and a much more peaceful mind! Unfortunately, this is much easier said than done.

Paul gives us a very practical and comforting command in Philippians 4:6–7 that shows how we should handle our fears:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

We are guaranteed to face adversities in our life. There is no way around it. But there is no reason to fear!

John 16:33 NIV “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

God's Word does not deny fear. Fear is a real thing! It's not always a good thing to hide our fears. We need to make our fears known to the Lord in prayer!

I like to think my mind is like a computer. Not that smart, of course, but think about all your hesitations and reservations… your mind shouldn’t have the capacity to store all of those fears in your brain! It will become overloaded and won’t function the way it should, much like a computer that has run out of storage and become sluggish.

There are much greater ways to make use of our time and talents. Write your fears and thoughts down on a piece of paper, and literally get them out of your mind. Pray for your fears, give them to God, and have peace.
