Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Proverbs 16:24

When I was a kid I learned the phrase, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Looking back that was never true in my life, I wasn’t a bully and I never got beat up, but I do remember a time when I was trying to be funny and said something cruel that made a girl cry. Words can hurt. The book of James describes our words as powerful and a deadly poison. We should guard our words carefully. Our words don’t have to be negative, though. Our verse for today tells us kind words are a blessing. When we share kind words we can cause healing instead of hurt. Words of affirmation or kind word can bring joy and uplift our spirits. Why don’t we try it more often! Isn’t it nice to hear the kids say thank you, or after a long day at work your boss telling you they appreciate your hard work. Tell your wife she looks beautiful, tell your son your proud of him. Thank Grandpa for his wisdom and Grandma for those cookies. For a healthy body and soul, I think we could all use a sweet compliment right about now!

Kind words. Something so simple it may only take you a few seconds, something so easy even a child can do it, and something we all can afford because it doesn’t cost a thing! Remember, putting a kind thought into a kind word makes a big difference.
