The Light Within the Tunnel

We have all heard the phrase “there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”

We associate the tunnel with hardships in our lives, and the light is the positive outcome we see when we persevere and arrive at the other end.

But, couldn’t we justify calling our life here on Earth just one, long tunnel? And what would be the ‘light’ at the end?

For Christians, that light is Jesus! However, there is a misconception that ‘He’ is something we achieve at the finish line, when in fact, He’s here for us all along the way. Even in this seemingly dark, sometimes scary, tunnel, we have a light WITHIN it! Accessing that light when the world seems full of despair can be the tricky part. It’s like trying to find the light switch in a room that’s pitch black.

John 8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Jesus is the light of this world, even though it’s only a temporary one. So, how do we find the light switch when we can’t see anything but the dark? Pray! Even when we feel alone, we can pray and Jesus is with us. Jesus and the Word of God bring light to our lives; honoring Jesus in our actions and reading the Bible daily are just two ways to keep that light burning bright through our personal, “worldly” tunnel.
