Aug 5, 2020    Christianity-not that complicated

Several times a year I go to conventions for my work. The last several years I’ve driven instead of flown so I can stop at other dealers along the route. Spending hours in my car alone I’ve listened to the Bible on CD (usually with different people portraying the different characters in the Bible). I think I’ve gone through the Bible at least 3 times doing this. I’ve found myself replaying a chapter if I get distracted or didn’t quite catch it. Other times I’ll just listen to Southern Gospel CD’s. Thanks to my mom and the whole Helmar Church of Mom and Dad’s generation; I’ve really enjoyed Christian music all my life.
I was driving back from the East Coast and was reminiscing a conversation I had with someone about the similarities and differences of mainstream Christian churches. Then I turned on a favorite CD of mine and it was almost uncanny the song that came on. It was by the Gaither Vocal Band, “Loving God Loving Each Other”.
It seems like there’s not much love in the mainstream world we live today. I suppose that’s to be expected. Unfortunately, however, there’s a lot of ‘us versus them’ in our Christian churches. Of course, everyone thinks they’re ‘doing church’ correctly or they wouldn’t do it that way. Listen to this song again when you start thinking the others are wrong and we’re right

Loving God, loving each other
Making music with my friends
Loving God, loving each other
And the story never ends
They pushed back from the table
To listen to His words
His secret plan before He had to go
It's not complicated
Don't need a lot of rules
This is all you'll need to know
Loving God, loving each other
Making music with my friends
Loving God, loving each other
And the story never ends
We tend to make it harder
Build steeples out of stone
Fill books with explanations of The Way
But if we'd stop and listen
And break a little bread
We would hear the Master say
Loving God, loving…
John 13:35 ESV By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
1 John 4:20 ESV If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
1 Peter 4:8 ESV Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
I for one am glad He made it so even I can understand. Love God and love others. God forgive me for making it harder than it really is.
