“God made dirt and it don’t hurt”

When I was growing up, the phrase “God made dirt and it don’t hurt” was written on an index card and hung on the front of our refrigerator. I think it was telling us to eat the piece of food we just dropped on the floor. That leads into another childhood story. Pop was a special treat in our house. We could only have pop on Friday and Saturday nights. On P ‘n’ P nights (pop and popcorn) there were usually no limits on pop or popcorn (unless you were a bed-wetter). One day I remember walking into a store with my Mom and there was an unfinished pop sitting next to a car. I couldn’t believe somebody would do something like that. How dare they not finish it and especially if it is POP! I picked it up and drank it. Well, I am still here today after eating a lot of dirty food and some stranger’s backwash. If it makes you cringe a bit, that’s the idea. As hard as we try, life isn’t clean and perfect just the way we want it. The dirty things can make us cringe. We are constantly getting dirty from our own sin in things we have done and things we have failed to do.

Proverbs 24:16
for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again
but the wicked are brought down by calamity.

I have felt, plenty of times, like I am trying my hardest and still failing. If you feel like you’re constantly falling backwards in sin, keep the faith. In Proverbs 24:16 even the righteous man falls a lot, but he rises again! The Lord knew we would sin plenty, even the righteous, but that’s why He sent Jesus……keep the faith!
