Some years ago, my grandma was in a nursing home. She had terminal cancer. Towards the end, I went to visit, and she would want me to read from Psalms. Any verse was fine. Maybe that’s why I turn to the Psalms in times when I need comfort. David wrote many of the Psalms as songs to God. You can hear & feel his emotion and what was going on with him.
Today, as life starts to get back to normal, Pandemic restrictions are being slowly lifted, it’s a great feeling to be less fearful. But I still find this verse so comforting, because there will always be things to be concerned about in our world.
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

How wonderful it sounds to dwell in the shelter of the MOST HIGH! Imagine the rest you would get just in His Shadow! What a visual it is to think of being under His might wings, like a momma bird shields her babies to keep them safe.
So next time you want to run to a safe place, read this passage. It was put in the bible for you! For me! For those times that we need comfort. But don’t stop there. Psalms is filled with comfort. Every word inspired by the God who created you and knew what you would need! He is calling you today to rest in Him. Just do it! Just rest a while with the creator and author of our lives.
