I am a writer but I am NOT a poet. That honor belonged to my grandpa Russell Mathre. Some of you knew him. Some of you may have even received some of his poetry. As I page through the many of his poems in my possession, there is a theme…pointing others to Jesus. Some of the poems have dates on them but this one did not, so I have no idea when it was written. But as I leaf through some of these poems he wrote some as early as the 1960’s, I find the message within them is as apt for today’s culture as it was when he wrote them. I’ll share more of his poetry as I feel led. I hope these bless you as much as they do me.

Fixed on Jesus by Russell J. Mathre
If your eyes are fixed on Jesus
And you seek to follow Him,
He’ll add joy to your footsteps
If it’s not a passing whim.
It’s important who you follow
For some would lead astray,
But if you follow Jesus
He’ll guide you every day.
So fix your eyes on Jesus
And follow Him today,
He’ll guide you in your doing
And bring you Home one day.
If you travel without guidance
You’re sure to lose your way,
But Jesus wants to guide you
So yield to Him today.
God tells you that He loves you
And he sent His Son to die,
To prove His love and save us
So tell Him, Here am I!

Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
