As I was reading about the stimulus package congress is discussing, I started pondering about where this money comes from? I’m assuming it is just going to be added to our taxes sometime in the future, but how does the loan work? Who is the lucky person that gets to sign the loan paperwork for 1.9 trillion dollars? I’ve gotten kind of nervous just borrowing on a house and cars and such. Would you imagine signing a loan that said you have to pay back 1.9 trillion dollars? I would be thinking what’s my monthly payment on that? Well, unfortunately the website I found would only let me type in 1 billion dollars so I had to calculate the payment on my own assuming zero percent interest. I came up with a monthly payment of around 5.3 billion dollars a month for thirty years. Thank goodness rates are so low….LOL! Well, perhaps in thirty years that will sound like a lot less. I’m not sure how many times I heard my Dad say…how much did you pay for your car? That’s more than I paid for my house (50 years ago of course)! The amount of money the federal government throws around has become so large it is difficult for me to even imagine. Perhaps if my sin was calculated I would feel the same way.

Colossians 2:9-15 (ESV)
For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him who is the head of all rule and authority. In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame by triumphing over them in him.

Our sin debt is so massive that we can’t get out of debt on our own. Praise Jesus because he set our sin aside, by nailing it to the cross. He took our debt upon himself because we couldn’t do it on our own. Jesus has triumphed over death and sin for you and me. If there is someone you know who thinks they have sinned too much and that their sin debt is too large for them to make it to Heaven, tell them about your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who has forgiven ALL our trespasses and canceled any record of our debt by nailing it to the cross with Him and triumphing over sin and death.

Romans 10:9 (ESV)
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
